What Are the Most Common Causes of Brain Injuries?
Brain injuries are generally categorized into two types: traumatic brain injuries and non-traumatic brain injuries. Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) typically result from outside factors, such as a blow to the head, whereas non-traumatic brain injuries occur internally.

- Diffuse Axonal Injuries: DAIs are very serious injuries that involve the tearing or “shearing” of connections within the brain due to a serious jolt or blow to the head. These microscopic tears can result in devastating brain damage and, in the most severe cases, death.
- Penetrating Injuries: A penetrating brain injury is a type of open-head injury. Unlike the closed-head injuries described above, penetrating injuries involve a foreign object entering the skull and damaging the brain. These TBIs are often fatal.
